A recent report has detailed more of Apple’s woes in bringing its iWatch smart watch concept to market.
Apple has long been rumoured to be working on its own smartwatch concept, but not without a number of issues. Just last week news emerged of yet more production snags for the so-called iWatch, with yield rates reportedly down at 50 percent.
Now a fresh report hints at more troubles for this new brand of device. According to The Information, current iterations of the iWatch suffer from unsatisfactory battery performance.
This is being attributed to issues with the device’s display, to the point where Apple is considering switching out the screen for a new type.
The report also mentions that Apple had to call off production of iWatch components with one manufacturer late last year, though this doesn’t seem likely to affect Apple’s plans to launch the iWatch in 2014.
Of course, it could be argued that Apple’s smartwatch has already been heavily delayed by production issues. Back in March 2013 it was widely held by those in the know that Apple was targeting a 2013 iWatch launch date.
Still, with rival efforts such as the Sony SmartWatch 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear so far failing to impress (or sell in any great number), Apple’s philosophy of getting it right rather than rushing to market could pay off once again.
Recent estimates place the iWatch release at October 2014, so we’ll doubtless be receiving plenty of updates on Apple’s production efforts throughout the year.
