LG WebOS TV teased ahead of official CES event

LG’s South Korean division has offered a few teaser details about the new webOS TVs ahead of an official announcement at CES 2014.

Although LG has yet to announce any of the specifications or screen sizes of its WebOS TVs, it has a CES 2014 press conference scheduled for 8am PST (4pm BST) that will surely reveal all.

On the South Korean blog though, LG states that webOS will be found on 70 per cent of its television sets by the end of 2014.

The webOS found on the LG TVs will be quite different from that found on smartphones previously. LG says it has focused on three key areas for webOS TVs: simple connection, simple switching and simple discovery.

All the voice and gesture recognition features found on the more recent LG TVs are all supposedly making an appearance with webOS, and LG seems to have enhanced multitasking between apps and live television content.

LG says the webOS TVs will launch in South Korea at the beginning, with European and American launches expected a little later.

That’s all LG are giving us for now, but a previously leaked photo of the webOS TV interface suggested that the app initially available will include YouTube, Facebook, Skype and Twitter. Netflix can also be seen in the official LG webOS picture above.

It is rumoured that the LG webOS TVs will run on a 2.2GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM.
