The Galaxy S5 may not use the same screen tech as the S4
The Samsung Galaxy S5 could feature a LTPS LCD display rather than the Samsung made AMOLED screen.
According to a new report Samsung could use an LTPS LCD in the Galaxy S5 rather than the AMOLED variety used in smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy S4.
The report suggests that Samsung is having production difficulties with the 2K resolution AMOLED screens and won’t be able to manufacture enough to meet the supply demands for the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Samsung is rumoured to be transferring to a Sharp manufactured 2K LTPS LCD display for the Galaxy S5. The South Korean electronics giant recently purchased a 3 per cent stake in Sharp, so it isn’t out of the question for Samsung to use the company to manufacture screens for its 2014 flagship.
Samsung is also working to bring flexible AMOLED displays to the mass market by 2015 as well, so this is another reason the company is rumoured to be going with Sharp for the Galaxy S5.
However, as always take this latest rumour with a pinch of salt. Samsung is unlikely to to move away from its own AMOLED display unless absolutely necessary.
With the Samsung Galaxy S5 tipped to launch sometime in the MWC 2014 period in February, we won’t have long to wait until the official specs of the next Galaxy flagship are revealed.
The Galaxy S5 is rumoured to launch alongside the first entry in the premium-line Samsung Galaxy F series. This super high end version of the Galaxy S5 is tipped to come with a metal body and specs superior to the flagship.
