Sony has expanded its collection of premium cameras, with the Sony Alpha 5000 making an appearance as a new compact system camera.
Taking the slightly strenuous mantle of the world’s smallest and lightest Wi-Fi enabled interchangeable lens camera, the Sony Alpha 5000, also set to be known as the A5000, pairs a 20.1-megapixel sensor with a svelte, premium design.
“A serious step up from ordinary point-and-shoot cameras, the new A5000 puts pro-style picture quality in a beautifully designed body that fits easily in your pocket,” an official Sony spokesperson said of the device.

While the 20.1-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor at the heart of the device will help provide detailed shots, the Sony Alpha 5000’s BIONZ X processor will further assist the compact system snapper’s imaging options.
Allowing for easy shot framing and improved image playback, the new Sony Alpha 5000 will sport an integrated LCD display that sits atop a 180-degree tilting mechanism. The camera has an ISO range up to 160000 for improved shooting in low light conditions.
Weighing in at just 210g, without a lens, the Sony Alpha 5000 pairs its integrated Wi-Fi connectivity options with inbuilt NFC, allowing the snapper to be wireless synced with Android powered smartphones and tablets for simple image transfers.
The world’s lightest Wi-Fi sporting CSC is further enhanced by the addition of a mass of photo enhancements and editing options.
Sony Alpha 5000 Release Date and Price
Although an official Sony Alpha 5000 price has yet to be confirmed, Sony has revealed that the compact system camera will launch in the UK this March.
