Samsung has built new Wi-Fi technology that will allow consumers to trade huge amounts of data between devices at lightning fast speeds.
The firm has been working on a new standard of Wi-Fi that promises 1GB file transfers in less than three seconds.
Samsung also talks up the transmission tech as being able to stream uncompressed HD video in real-time.
This isn’t just a long off pipe-dream either. A consumer release could be coming soon, as Kim Chang Yong, head of a Samsung R&D centre, says the firm has ‘successfully overcome’ the barriers of bringing the tech to the public.
“New and innovative changes await Samsung’s next-generation devices,” Yong stated.
“New possibilities have been opened up for the future development of Wi-Fi technology.”
According to the company’s formal annoucement, the Korean electronics firm’s looking to start shipping the tech sometime in 2015.
The nippy 60GHz tech is reportedly ’10 times faster’ than existing Wi-Fi networks, with speeds reaching up to 575MB a second.
The company also says it wants to make use of the new Wi-Fi in its Samsung Smart Home initiative.
It’s important to note however that it’s not currently clear whether the imminent roll-out will extend past the firm’s Korean home soil.
The announcement comes after the company last week announced that it was expecting around a 60 per cent drop in profits year-on-year for Q3 2014.
While Samsung’s autumn releases, namely the Galaxy Alpha and the Note 4 , have lapped up reviewer praise, the Korean giant is facing renewed competition from tech rivals like Apple and HTC.
