HTC One E8 EYE spotted

HTC could be planning the release of an HTC One E8 EYE to accompany the HTC Desire EYE and the HTC One M8 EYE.

References to an HTC One E8 EYE were spotted by Indian import website Zauba on a manifest from a shipment between India and Taiwan.

Precise details on the device are thin on the ground to say the least, but we do know that it's come in grey and silver.

Still, given previous releases in the recently launched EYE range, we can have an educated guess.

The first EYE device was the HTC Desire EYE, an all-new smartphone that matches the HTC One M8 for high-end specs, but sports a cheaper plastic construction. More importantly, it comes with a pair of 13-megapixel cameras - one on the back, and one on the front. It's a full-on selfie phone.

Following on from the HTC Desire EYE, we've seen evidence of the HTC One M8 EYE, which will launch in China tomorrow. This phone will simply be an HTC One M8 with the 4-UltraPixel rear camera replaced with a more conventional 13-megapixel variant and a slightly larger 5.2-inch display.

We'd expect the HTC One E8 EYE to follow suit. Expect it to look and behave much like the HTC One E8 - which itself was essentially an HTC One M8 in a cheaper plastic body, and minus the Duo Lens configuration on the back.

Of course, the original E8 already had a 13-megapixel camera on the back, so this EYE variant could effectively be an exercise in rebranding with a couple of tweaks. We'll see.
