The latest hint for Android’s next sweet-themed moniker is firmly set in the Lollipop corner.
A screenshot posted by a Google developer shows off a mysterious new debug icon on the Android L operating system, and it looks very much like a lollipop.
In actuality, it’s little more than an Android robot head on a stick, but its intended resemblance is unmistakable.
The bad news is that there’s no way of knowing whether this was just an innocent mistake on the part of the dev, or part of Google’s nefarious Android-teasing scheme.
Just yesterday, the search engine giant posted a ‘casting call’ clip that showed off the prime contenders for Android L’s tasty title.
We saw appearances from a lemon meringue pie, liquorice, a lava cake, a ladyfinger, a lemon drop and, confusingly, an Oreo. Perhaps most telling, however, was the notable absence of a lollipop.
Google is expected to debut the new software on two devices today, namely the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9.
The former is reckoned to be a Motorola-designed device set to succeed Google’s Nexus 5 smartphone.
The latter is tipped to be built by HTC, and should take up the reins as Google’s flagship tablet.
