The Apple Pay launch is on the horizon, with new information suggesting the service might be landing as soon as next Monday.
According to an internal memo sent to Panera Bread employees, the payment system will be launching on October 20.
The memo was acquired by 9to5mac and reads as follows: “Now, we are excited to share that Apple is very close to releasing Apple Pay and actually planning to launch on October 20th.”
“In addition to Apple’s own announcement, which is always big news, Panera is planning the following activities to drive customer awareness…”
The memo then reels off publicity plans, including a televised interview with a Panera exec, door-based advertising shipped to all of the bakery-cafes, and an e-mail to all MyPanera members.
Panera Bread is a US-based bakery firm that Apple announced as a flagship Pay partner at its iPhone 6 keynote last month.
The leaked memo includes an online training course that explains how to use VeriFone readers with several tap-to-pay systems including Apple Pay.
Google Wallet and SoftCard were also referenced in the report, although both of these systems are already available to the US public unlike Apple Pay.
Apple is expected to launch iOS 8.1 on Monday, so it wouldn’t be too much a stretch of the imagination to assume Apple Pay will be included in the update.
