Dyson has finally entered the robot vacuum cleaner space as the Dyson 360 Eye is officially unveiled ahead of a 2015 release.
A device which has been in the works for some 16 years, the Dyson 360 Eye is the vacuum cleaner specialist’s answer to the likes of the LG Hom-Bot Square and the Miele Scout RX1.
“Most robotic vacuum cleaners don’t see their environment, have little suction, and don’t clean properly,” James Dyson said in unveiling the 360 Eye. “They are gimmicks.”
He added: “We’ve been developing a unique 360-degree vision system that lets our robot see where it is, where it has been, and where it is yet to clean.
“Vision, combined with our high speed digital motor and cyclone technology, is the key to achieving a high performing robot vacuum – a genuine labour saving device.”
Dyson 360 Eye Features
Looking to tackle the common complaints with existing robot vacuum cleaners, the Dyson 360 Eye has adopted all new motion, suction and navigation technologies.
Running on mini tank tracks, the 360 Eye is able to work across all floor types and traverse small obstacles with ease. This drive mechanism also allows for more precise steering and speed control.
As its name suggests, the 360 Eye features a 360-degree panoramic camera which works with inbuilt infrared sensors to better map out its surroundings and thus ensure a thorough, fuss-free cleaning experience. This ‘eye’ takes up to 30-frames-per-second, using landmarks within a room to determine how best to route its movements.
Suction is key to any vacuum cleaner, and Dyson’s robot has plenty of it. The company’s powerful V2 digital motor combines with Radial Root Cyclone technology to not only offer impressive suction levels, but microscopic levels of dust separation.
Unlike many of its robots the Dyson 360 Eye is doing away with sweeper brushes in favour of a brush bar. This carbon fibre brush reduced static on hard floors and extends across the full width of the machine to ensure no spot is missed.
If all this wasn’t enough, Dyson has added app support to its futuristic cleaner.
Set to be compatible with both iOS and Android, the 360 Eye will be able to be sent out on cleaning jobs remotely. Hello, is that the future calling?
Dyson 360 Eye Release Date and Price
Despite entering the realms of reality, don’t expect to see the Dyson robot vacuum scooting around your floors anytime in the near future.
The manufacturer has confirmed that the Dyson 360 Eye release date will be held ‘spring 2015’ for Japan. The UK and other territories will follow ‘later in the year’.
A formal Dyson 360 Eye price has yet to be confirmed. However, given the usual premium associated with Dyson vacuums and the 360 Eye’s techy ilk, don’t expect it to be too kind to your wallet.
