Toshiba has pulled the wrappers off of its new 7–inch tablet, the Encore Mini. The new slate, on show at this week’s IFA event in Berlin, manages to cram Windows 8.1 into its tiny frame, alongside a host of other Microsoft features.
Microsoft 365 Personal and Bing are the headline features in the Encore Mini, with Toshiba saying it will be an ‘affordable mobile package’. Its display clocks in at 1024 x 600, with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage under the hood. U.S. pricing has been set at an impressively low $119 (£72), with UK details to be announced soon.
On top of its new tablet, Toshiba has brought two new 11.6–inch laptops to Berlin: the Satellite Radius 11 and Satellite CL10-B. The latter is billed as an entry level device for students. For those who prefer things a bit more cloud–based, Tosh’s new Chromebook 2, with a HD 13–inch non–reflective display, should do the trick.
Being a TV company at heart, it's no surprise that Toshiba has landed in Germany with a new Ultra HD TV as well. Its prototype U Series box doesn’t go on sale until 2015, but with Samsung and LG both set to trail new smart TVs at the show, it’s getting in there first. It comes with Tosh’s own MediaGuide playback smarts and HEVC support.
This new TV will also be backed up by a string of new L24 TVs, packing Full HD skills and a built in PVR.
