5.5-inch iPhone 6 Air shell
A new video has shown off and measured up the shell casing of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Air.
Video footage of what claims to be the back panel of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6, also dubbed the iPhone 6 Air, has been leaked online.
The rear panel is sized up against a ruler, pretty much confirming previous rumours of a 5.5-inch display for the second iPhone 6.
Previous dimensions supposedly sourced from Apple supplier Foxconn, stated that the 4.7-inch model measures up at 138 x 66 x 6.9mm, while the larger 5.5-inch iteration offers dimensions of 158 x 78 x 7.1mm.
That would make both models thinner than the current iPhone 5S, despite featuring larger screens.
It looks like the iPhone 6 Air is just a scaled up version of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, in terms of what we can tell from the back panel.
As there is no internal hardware shown off, it’s difficult to tell at this stage whether the larger iPhone 6 will have any differing specs from its little brother.
The iPhone 6 launch is set for September 9, thanks to a teaser invite released by Apple in late August.
So far, we know that the iPhone 6 will feature a revamped design – taking cues from the iPod Touch range with rounded edges and a slim profile.
It will run the new iOS 8 operating system, powered by a new, energy efficient Apple A8 processor.
No doubt it will build upon the Apple M7 co-processor features introduced with the iPhone 5S too, along with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
As for camera specs, we should be looking at improved optics. But an exact megapixel count changes with each report.
