Microsoft is now giving those who want to duck in and out of life with with Office for iPad the chance to purchase monthly in-app subscriptions.
An update to the apps, which began rolling out on Tuesday, gives users the option of going month-to-month as well as committing to a 12-month annual subscription for Office 365.
Office 365 Personal, which limits users to one iPad and one PC/Mac, is available for $6.99/£5.99 a month. Office 365 Home which allows five iPads (or Windows tablets) and five PCs or Macs costs $9.99/£7.99 a month.
Annual subscribers effectively get two months free over the monthly subscribers, with fees remaining at $69.99/£59.99 and $99.99/£79.99 a month respectively.
“These new In-App subscription changes are great options for those who prefer the flexibility of monthly payments,” Microsoft wrote on its Office blog.
“Existing customers, who have purchased Office 365 Home for one year, will continue on the same subscription. If you buy a monthly subscription on your iPad, you can switch to an annual subscription from your iPad, or from iTunes on your PC or Mac.”
Monthly options were previously available to buy via Microsoft's online portals, but this is the first time Redmond has offered the month-to-month experience to users via the App Store’s in-app purchases.
The Office for iPad subscription enables users to create Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents, access the full range of editing tools, offers 1TB of OneDrive storage and make use of 60 minutes of Skype calls per month.
