Apple launch coming on 9/9
Apple may be preparing to announce the forthcoming iPad Air 2 as well as the expected iPhone 6 smartphone and wearable, during its keynote address next week, according to reports.
The firm was largely expected to show off its new handsets and the long-rumoured iWatch next Tuesday, but it was thought Apple would hold off another month before unveiling new tablets.
According to the well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning a super event where all there will get an airing this coming Tuesday.
Kuo believes the iPad Air 2 will also see “significant spec upgrades” including an A8 processor, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an anti-reflective screen coating and a new gold colouring.
He also believes an iPad mini upgrade - which he doesn’t expect to see on September 9 - could only see incremental spec upgrades, but may get Touch ID.
An iPad refresh next week would certainly come as somewhat of a surprise given Apple’s recent past. Tablet launches usually come around a month after that year’s smartphones are updated.
With the firm reportedly having the iWatch on show too, it’ll be difficult to dedicate as much time to all three categories.
If we were in the betting business, we’d still wager against the new iPad Air showing up at the Cupertino event next week, but stranger things have happened.
