Amazon UK has increased the Super Saver delivery minimum spend to £10, but only on orders that don’t contain the top selling categories on the site.
Any orders containing DVDs, Blu-rays, books, CDs, video games or software will still qualify for Super Saver delivery whatever the total cost.
Other orders that don’t include any of the above will now have to spend a minimum of £10 in order to enjoy the free Super Saver Delivery.
“We wanted to let you know that Amazon.co.uk has introduced a £10 minimum spend to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery in a number of product categories, effective July 23 2013”, reads the Amazon UK letter to its customers. “Orders that include books, DVDs, Blu-rays, music, video games and software products continue to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery with no minimum spend threshold.”
As long as the order contains one of the aforementioned items, it will still be eligible for Amazon UK’s free delivery service.
“Whilst the change will affect only a very small proportion of orders, it will allow us to offer you a significantly expanded selection of lower priced products.”
Amazon UK has confirmed that Amazon Prime members won’t be affect by the new rules and will still enjoy their next-day delivery for free.
“We continue to work hard every day to improve the delivery services that we offer. For example, Amazon Prime allows you to benefit from unlimited, One Day delivery on all orders with no minimum threshold for an annual fee of £49.”
This may seem like a small change for Amazon customers, but anyone buying smaller products, such as a memory stick for under £10, will now face a £3.99 postage fee.
“This is potentially damaging for Amazon as there is likely to be resistance to this change from some customers, particularly for those infrequent shoppers who don’t mind waiting a bit longer for their goods to arrive,” said Neil Saunders, Conlumino analyst.
