In amongst all the excitement of a new version of Android Jelly Bean, next-gen Nexus 7 tablet and the surprise launch of a TV streaming dongle called Chromecast, Google has also outed a new app for its Android gaming service.
During the 'Breakfast with Sundar Pichai' press gathering on Wednesday, the search and mobile giant unveiled the long-rumoured Google Play Games app.
A direct answer to Apple's Game Center portal, Google Play Games makes it much easier for Android users to challenge their friends to multiplayer battles.
As with the iOS-based solution, Play Games also houses yours and your friends achievements for the games they're playing and the leaderboards for those titles.
The new app is the public facing iteration of the Google Play Games Services API the company announced at Google I/O back in May, which brought cloud-based saves for gamers playing titles across multiple Android devcies.
Among the first games to be compatible with the new app are Asphalt 8 Airborne, Riptide GP2 and Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame.
