The LG G2 is on the horizon, but the Korean manufacturer could have a range of further products up its sleeves, with newly discovered product filings pointing to an LG smartwatch, tablet, fitnessband and techy eyewear all being in the works.
With a range of new product categories said to be under development out at LG’s Korean HQ, latest reports have suggested the company could be on the verge of re-entering the smartwatch and tablet sectors, as well as getting ready to take on the likes of the Nike FuelBand and Google Glass.
With a the LG G Pad having been filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, a follow-on to the long forgotten LG Optimus Pad 8.9 could be on the cards. Although it is not yet clear when the mooted device could enter the realms of reality, the trademarks suggest it could be with us in the near future.
Not content with forging new ground in the tablet scene, a raft of further devices have been tipped to be in the works, all sporting the company’s new premium range ‘G’ branded naming convention which was announced last week.
Backing up the self-explanatory likes of the LG G Watch, LG G Band and LG G Glass are the more mysterious LG G Hub and LG G Link. No further details have been revealed on the future products besides their names.
Last week, LG’s CEO of Mobile Communications, Dr. Jong-Seok Park revealed the “new ‘G’ premium brand” will cover all new high-end LG products in the mobile sector.
He stated: “Our vision is to make LG’s newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience.” Discussing the first new addition to the G range, and LG’s latest flagship smartphone he added: “The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G series products.”
Far from the first time LG has been rumoured to be working on a new smartwatch offering, earlier this year out at the company’s Gasan facility in Seoul, South Korea, TrustedReviews was told that LG hand not ruled out making another watch phone style device.
“Korean newspapers have said we want to make watch phones again,” Dr Ramchan Woo, LG’s Head of Mobile Planning said at the time. “We will look at any opportunities that are possible.”
He added: “Any sort of opportunity we are looking at. It is not just simply yes, but it’s simply not no. We are looking at different opportunities.”
Further hinting at the potential for a range of new LG product line, claimed insider sources recent declared the Samsung and Apple rival would be looking to enter new markets in the near future, including adding a new smartwatch to its product line up.
“It is one major part of many currently non-commercialised products under development by LG Electronics,” the unnamed source said on reports of a new LG smartwatch. “The company has spared no efforts to invest in products that it believes are must-haves to stay ahead technology wise in the market, whatever the situation may be.”
They added: “LG recognizes that it is always important to develop products for the future.”
