A fresh analyst report suggests that the forthcoming iPhone 5S will launch in limited numbers this September, and that there won't be a Retina display-equipped iPad mini this year.
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is experiencing production issues relating to the iPhone 5S's rumoured fingerprint scanner. The result is that, while it's on track to launch at the end of September, supplies will only really hit the target numbers on October or November.
Kuo reckons that the heavily rumoured budget iPhone will launch earlier in September.
Of more concern to iPad fans is Kuo's assertion that Apple will no launch a new iPad mini with Retina display this year. Rather, it will focus on a new redesigned full-size iPad, which as we've reported before should be much thinner and lighter than the iPad 4.
Apparently there is an iPad mini with Retina display and upgraded internals (including an A7 processor) in the pipeline, as well as a second cheaper model equipped with the same A5 processor as the current iPad mini . However, these two devices won't launch until next year.
Kuo claims that the cheaper model won't enter production until December of this year, whilst the Retina display version is headed for a March or April launch.
Of course, this being an analyst report this all amounts to a number of educated guesses based on supply chain reports, but Ming-Chi Kuo has proved to be accurate with many of his Apple predictions in the past.
