Xbox One owners can now buy and pre-download Destiny

Microsoft has made the eagerly-anticipated Destiny game available to pre-download onto the Xbox One ahead of its release next month.

From today, gamers can head to the Xbox Store and hand over the cash for Bungie’s new first-person shooter.

The game will automatically download to the console, but gamers will not be able to enter the expansive, persistent online world until the release date on September 9.

Destiny, which will also launch on PS4 (as well as the Xbox 360, PS3), has been earmarked as one of the games to truly usher in the benefits of next generation gaming.

The sci-fi game from the makers of Halo will attempt to blend multi-player and single player experiences.

Such is the anticipation, the beta trials on PlayStation platforms attracted 850,000 people to take part in a moon mission at one time, which is the highest number of players Bungie has ever handled on its servers.

The pre-purchase roll out makes Destiny the second Xbox One game available under the scheme. Earlier this week, Microsoft enabled gridiron fans to suit up for Madden NFL 15 before its release date.

The scheme, which saves users from waiting to download large digital files before playing on release date was originally planned to go live in September to coincide with the launches of new FIFA and Forza games.
