News & Weather gets a revamp
Google has thrown a little love the way of its long neglected News & Weather application for Android.
The new version of the app, the first in a number of years, brings a Google Now-style user interface separating the weather and news stories into Cards.
The app, which has barely been touched since the days of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, allows users to tap the Cards for an expanded view and further coverage. Android device owners can also swipe through the categories and access stories from 65,000 publications.
Google has also refreshed homescreen widgets allowing users to keep the top stories and weather conditions in various locations easily accessible.
The launch of the app across the wider Android community comes after Google introduced the UI for devices running the raw version of Android. From today, it can be downloaded on any device on Android Ice Cream sandwich and above.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Google has also announced it is giving Hangouts within Gmail a tweak, allowing users to pin contacts and get a better idea of who is online.
The company also announced users can now listen to the sounds while enjoying selected sights on Street View.
Thanks to the integration of Amplifon’s technology, users can experience ambient noise in Balboa Park in San Diego, Place du Palais in Monaco and Hapuna Beach in Hawaii
