Sapphire screen hosting Huawei Ascend P7 confirmed for launch

Looking to get a jump on the iPhone 6, Huawei has confirmed that it will launch a Sapphire screen hosting Huawei Ascend P7 in the near future.

Having previously been teased by the Chinese manufacturer’s CEO, the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition has been confirmed for launch in the company’s homeland.

There is currently no word on a precise release date, pricing or wider availability.

The first 4G sapphire glass touchscreen smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition, will soon be available in China,” an official Huawei spokesperson has confirmed.

They added: “Details will be announced by Huawei Consumer Business Group shortly.”

Sapphire glass is an extremely toughened material which has been pegged as being “virtually scratch free”. Heavily backed by Apple, the glass – which is roughly two and half times tougher than Corning’s Gorilla Glass – is widely expected to be implemented on the iPhone 6.

Huawei, however, has beaten Apple to the jump, at least in announcing plans for a sapphire screen device.

Sadly for us Brits it does not appear that the P7 Sapphire Edition will be heading to our humble shores.

Questioned on the device, James Powell, Huawei’s Product Director told TrustedReviews : “From time to time variants get made of products for different markets.

There is certainly nothing coming to Europe.

The Sapphire screen equipped model will become the third edition of the P7 after the standard handset was followed up by the football-themed Huawei Ascend P7 Arsenal Edition.

The existing handsets boast a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display alongside a 1.8GHz Cortex-A9 processor, 2GB of RAM and a camera package which sees a 13-megapixel primary snapper partnered with an 8-megapixel offering up front.

It is not believed that the P7 Sapphire Edition will differ on this front.
