LG G Watch R priced significantly higher than square sibling

Just hours after LG announced its flashy new round-faced LG G Watch R on Thursday, the retail price appears to have leaked out.

According to the German press release for the smartwatch, it will cost tech fans a whopping 299 Euros (around £237). That's an entire €100 more than the firm asks for the original LG G Watch.

For Brits, who were asked to fork over £159 for the square Android Wear watch, there’s also likely to be significant premium added if they opt for the more fashionable and advanced model. An estimate would suggest that a price of at least £250 would be attached to the device in the UK.

For their outlay, users will get a 1.3-inch circular and bezel-less plastic OLED display, which LG claims is the world’s first.

The company is offering the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB of RAM as well as the 4GB of storage that sat within the original G Watch.

The battery gets a slight bump up to 410mAh, while this iteration is IP67 certified making it waterproof for 30 minutes in a meter of water.

The watch will be on show during the IFA tech show in Berlin next week, which will give us a chance to ascertain whether that lofty price point represents good value.
