Huawei Ascend G7 announced with all metal body

Huawei is proving that premium styling and materials don’t necessarily require a high-end price tag, as the metal Huawei Ascend G7 is formally unveiled.

Taking a bow during the company’s IFA 2014 press conference, the G7, which packs some premium design appeal, has been unveiled with a bevy of impressive specs and a €250 (£199) price tag that shouldn’t be too hard on your wallet.

“This will be a very highly specced device for something that I would expect to be around €250 in price,” James Powell, Huawei’s Product Direct said in showing off the handset to TrustedReviews.

“The finish is all metal. It’s important to have that appeal in the hand. That’s the important thing about metal as much as anything else.”

Huawei Ascend G7 Features

Lining up at just 7.6mm thick, the 5.5-inch Huawei Ascend G7 is built around a sleek, brushed metal frame which will be available in both silver, grey and golden hues at launch.

Although not quite as bezel-bereft as the identically sized LG G3, the Ascend G7’s 5.5-inch display is surrounded by just 2.85mm of framing. The phone runs a slightly underwhelming 1280 x 720p HD resolution.

Powered by Qualcomm’s 64 Bit 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, the G7 adds 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage – expandable up to 64GB via microSD.

It features a 3000mAh battery which should safely see you into a second day’s use, while Cat 4 LTE connectivity options provides download speeds on compatible networks of up to 150mbps.

Taking pointers from its high-end sibling, the Huawei Ascend P7, the G7 boasts the same 13-megapixel rear-mounted snapper.

This camera benefits from a fourth-generation Sony BSI sensor and IMAGESmart 2.0 Engine and is enhanced by an integrated LED flash. For the selfie lovers among you, the handset adds a wide-angle, f/2.4 5-megapixel snapper around front.

Running Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat OS, the handset is overlaid with Huawei’s latest Emotion UI 3.0 interface.

Huawei Ascend G7 Release Date and Price

The Huawei Ascend G7 release date has been tentatively pencilled in for this November, although an exact date for launch has yet to be confirmed.

As previously mentioned, the G7 will not set you back the earth with a €250 (£199) SIM-free price tag to see the handset offered on contracts in the region of £18 to £20 per month.
