The iWatch should launch on Tuesday, September 9 in two sizes and with 8GB of internal memory in tow.
Following Apple design chief Jony Ive’s reported boasting about the iWatch, a fresh report from notoriously accurate tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has outlined some key details about the wrist worn gadget.
Apparently when it launches alongside the iPhone 6 next week, the iWatch will be offered in two sizes – possibly one for daintier female wrists and a larger option aimed at men.
The smaller will size up at 1.3-inches, while the larger will be 1.5-inches. These are both considerably smaller than the current options, which tend to be around 1.6-inches like the LG G Watch or up to 2-inches like the new Samsung Gear S.
These screen sizes match up with those previously rumoured for the iWatch, but it’s unclear at this stage whether Kuo is basing them on manufacturing sources.
Hardware wise we should be looking at 8GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM. Unlike Apple’s other products, the iWatch should only be offered with one storage option.
The iWatch will reportedly be packed with a variety of health sensors, tying in with the new iOS 8 HealthKit APIs and the Health app. These are supposed to include a heart rate monitor, similar to the Samsung Gear Fit.
Kuo also outlined that Apple is preparing between two and four options for the casing material of the iWatch. One of these is tipped to be the same Champagne Gold as the current iPHone 5S and upcoming products like the iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2.
The iWatch is due to launch on September 9 at the iPhone 6 launch, but due to “both software and hardware design challenges” won’t actually go on sale until 2015.
