Microsoft has released a new mobile-to-TV streaming device for Lumia handsets, to rival the Google Chromecast and Apple TV device.
The Microsoft Screen Sharing for Lumia Phones HD-10 (yes, that’s its full name) is a hockey puck-shaped HDMI device will allow content to be sent to a television set via NFC and wireless Miracast technology.
“No matter what you do on your Lumia, you’ll be able to see it in full HD (1080p), and larger than life on the big screen via this wireless display adapter,” the company wrote on the Nokia Conversations blog.
The HD-10 (which isn’t as much of a mouthful) will allow screen mirroring meaning users can send movies, photos, music or items like PowerPoint presentations to the TV or large monitor.
The streaming device is paired with NFC-enabled Lumia phones with a quick tap. As well as Lumia phones, it’s also compatible with any Wi-Fi certified Miracast product on any operating system.
It’s available in black and white starting this month and will set you back $79 USD / 79€. That’s around £62, but the UK price is yet to be confirmed.
Alongside the HD-10, the company also unveiled the Nokia Wireless Charging Plate - DT 903. The second-gen charger is compatible with the Qi standard and is Bluetooth Low Energy enabled. It’ll also tell users when they get a missed call on their Lumia device.
The firm also announced charging shells for the new Lumia 735, which replaces the back cover, and for the Lumia 830 which fits around the device.
