Ollie unveiled as the second gen Sphero

Sphero has announced Ollie, the second generation of its app controlled robot.

Unlike the original orb Sphero, Ollie comes with two wheels that let it get up to speeds of 14mph and perform tricks.

Thanks to a new Ollie app, you can get the little speedy robot to spin, drift, jump and even flip via your touchscreen smartphone or tablet.

“With Ollie we’ve thrust forward the core experience of Sphero 2.0, steering focus from varied gameplay to pure driving,” said Ian Bernstein, Sphero co-creator. “Taking a nod from skateboarding culture, Ollie is a complete adrenaline junkie that rockets around at floor-warping speeds and does ridiculous tricks. We continue to extend the world of physical play to the digital life circling around us.”

Just like the original Sphero, Ollie is kitted out with some LED lighting, making the experience even more visual.

Ollie is charged by USB and on average gives you an hour’s play for three hours of charging. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth 4.0 LE.

“We are leading the connected play category and want to helop shapre the future of the toy industry,” added Paul Berberian, CEO of Sphero. “Connected Play is more than just hardware, it’s about an integrated play experience that also depends on great software. Ollie bring this entire experience to the next level.”

Along with Ollie app, Sphero has a slection of programming apps available to teach people how to programme Ollie’s movements and more.

Olle is available from the Sphero website for £179.99 alongside selected retail partners. Shipping starts September 15.
