Not content with launching the high-end Galaxy Note 4, Samsung has decided to do something a little different and out there. That’s where the curved screened Samsung Galaxy Edge comes in.
Based around a bent screen concept the Korean manufacturer has been teasing for years, the Samsung Galaxy Edge – as its name might suggest – features a screen which wraps around the right-hand side of the device.
On this new side panel, shortcuts to favourite apps can be placed, as can all manner of fitness data, settings options, tools and music player controls. The Edge’s ‘edge’ can even be swiped while the rest of the screen is asleep to secretively check the time in meetings.
Samsung Galaxy Edge Features
The Galaxy Edge’s screen isn’t just about its innovative kink. The display is a beauty. Like the Note 4, the Edge features a QHD display with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.
If that wasn’t enough, the high-end handset features the full list of internals found on the flagship Note 4.
That means plenty of power from the 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM combination and storage expandable via microSD.
With an inbuilt S-Pen stylus, the phone is ideal for note taking and document annotation. It is currently unclear how, or indeed if, the Edge’s curve will use this stylus functionality.
As well as displaying strong images, the Edge makes them. The phone features a 16-megapixel optical-image stabilised camera on the rear, with a secondary, 3.7-megapixel camera lining up on the device’s fore.
Running Android 4.4 KitKat skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz OS, the Galaxy Edge lines up at 8.5mm thick. It will be available in a choice of colour options.
Samsung Galaxy Edge Release Date and Price
The Samsung Galaxy Edge is coming later this year to ‘select markets’. While we have been reliably informed that the UK will be one of these choice markets, it remains unclear when exactly the futuristic phone will hit our fair shores.
Similarly, a Samsung Galaxy Edge price is still unclear. Given the phone’s bevy of high-end components and innovative screen, however, don’t expect it to be cheap.
