Minecraft coming to Xbox One and PS4 this week

Minecraft Xbox One Edition

Minecraft is arriving on the Xbox One and PS4 this week according to several reports.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Minecraft Xbox One Edition will launch on Friday, September 5.

The Xbox One Edition of the block world building game can be purchased for £15.99 directly from the Xbox Store.

However, if you’ve already purchased the Xbox 360 version you can make the upgrade for just £3.99.

“With worlds up to 36 times larger than on Xbox 360, now there’s an even bigger canvas to create on. Transfer your favourite Xbox 360 worlds and content to the Xbox One Edition so you won’t lose your creations,” explained the Xbox Wire post.

That means any existing Xbox 360 Minecraft creations and purchased DLC will also make the transition.

Although there hasn’t been an official confirmation from Sony or Mojang yet, it is looking likely that the Minecraft PS4 Edition will also be released on Friday.

According to a broken link on the PlayStation Store and a confirmation from PlayStation France on Twitter (that has now been removed), Minecraft will launch for the PS4 on Friday.

It was listed for the same $19.99/£15.99 price as the Xbox One Edition, but there was no mention of a PS3 upgrade option.

We’re sure that Sony will offer such a feature, but we’ll have to wait for the official confirmation later this week before we know for sure.

There is also a PS Vita version of Minecraft in the works, but Mojang has previously said it requires “a bit more work” before it can be submitted to Sony for release.

Initially Minecraft failed to pass certification on the PS4 due to “some issues” that weren’t outlined. Developer 4J Studios confirmed that it has since been re-submitted for more testing.
