HTC has teased the unveiling of a new 64-bit smartphone with an octa-core processor, at the IFA tech show in Berlin next week.
After sending out invites for its event on September 4, the firm posted another image to the Chinese social network Weibo.
The phone is likely to be latest of HTC’s longstanding Desire line having been identified in previous leaks as the 'Desire 820, a successor to the Desire 816.
Despite the lofty connotations associated with the octo-core and 64-bit specs, the Desire 820 is likely to be a mid-range handset aimed at emerging markets and could represent an affordable challenger to the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The plastic-encased Desire 816 offered a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, a 720p 5.5-inch display, 1.5GB of RAM and 1.5GB RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. The farther-down-the-trough 5-inch Desire 616 brought an octo-core processor into play.
The Desire 820 looks likely to improve upon those specs, but don’t expect it to be marketed alongside the HTC One M8 or HTC’s other big hitting handsets.
HTC is seeking to boost its standing in emerging markets as it seeks to recoup losses in other parts of the business. We’re intrigued to see what HTC rolls out at IFA next week.
