Bust out your wallet for the Big M's new slate

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 has go on sale in the UK. The Windows 8–packing tablet is up for grabs today, with prices starting at £639.

Billed as a laptop replacement, Microsoft’s slimline slate has been widely seen as a competitor for Apple’s size zero MacBook AirIt comes with an impressive 12–inch display, which packs a 2,160 x 1,440 resolution.

There are five models available on these shores. An entry level 64GB edition with a Core i3 processor and 4GB RAM for £649; a 128GB model with a Core i5 processor and 4GB RAM for £849; two 256GB models with 8GB RAM, one with an i5 and one with an i7 processor, costing £1,109 and £1,339 respectively; and a top end 512GB model with 8GB RAM and Core i7 for a hefty £1,649.

All come with a digital pen, which our review found to be incredibly accurate. The keyboard cover gives it an added edge over traditional tablets, while its full on Windows operating system makes it a proper PC for those looking to work as well as play.

The build quality also stands out. It’s just 9.1mm thin and tips the scales at just over 1kg with the keyboard attached. Fans of do–it–all hybrid devices will struggle to find a better piece of kit on the market today.
