Apple's next generation iPad mini 2 tablet is expected to be unveiled this month, but it may have a little more junk in the trunk, according to reports on Monday.
Bear with us here, but case manufacturers at a Hong Kong trade show believe the iPad mini 2 will be 7.5mm thick compared to the 7.2mm original. Not a huge difference admittedly, but perhaps enough to accommodate the device's most requested feature.
The accessory companies interviewed by Japanese Apple news site Macotakara say the size bump will be due to a larger battery pack housed within the sequel device.
The reason the iPad mini 2 needs a bigger battery? To power the rumoured Retina Display upgrade, of course!
As AppleInsider points out, the iPad 3 gained 0.6mm in thickness over the iPad 2 when it was equipped with the super high resolution display technology, so it'd stand to reason the smaller 7.9-inch tablet would get the requisite added girth too.
Alongside the thicker body, case manufacturers (who're admittedly not always the most reliable of sources) are also accommodating for a microphone hole on the rear of the device within their accessories.
The second-generation iPad mini 2 is expected to be revealed alongside the full size iPad 5 at an event within the next couple of weeks. Apple is yet to confirm the time and date, but recent reports have suggested the company has earmarked October 22nd for the launch.
