Having been hit by a series of delays, the BBM Android and BBM iOS apps will now launch “within days,” BlackBerry’s Chief Marketing Officer Frank Boulben has stated.
With the BBM Android and iOS apps having been expected to launch last month, leaked pre-release software caused the company to push back the multiplatform rollout as a number of issues were found with the company’s ability to support demand.
Although a confirmed BBM for Android or BBM for iOS release date has yet to be formally confirmed, Boulben has told news house Reuters that consumers can expect the apps “within days.” He added that the company was confident it had rectified all problems with the service.
Boulben’s comments come in the wake of an open letter released by the Canadian company, a letter which urged consumers to have faith in BlackBerry re-finding its footing on the smartphone scene.
As well as promising a strong future for the ailing brand, BlackBerry revealed that early interest in the cross-platform BBM rollout has seen more than six million iOS and Android users register their interest in the upcoming apps.
“We are bringing the most engaging mobile messaging platform to all, with our BBM launch for Android and iPhone,” an official BlackBerry spokesperson stated.
“There are already around six million customers pre-registered to be notified of our rollout. This number is growing every day, and speaks to the tremendous opportunity we have to expand BBM beyond BlackBerry smartphones to make it the world’s largest mobile social network.”
Addressing consumers concerns in the company’s current smartphone offerings, which include the likes of the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10, the manufacturer has urged to public to “count on us.”
“Yes, there is a lot of competition out there and we know that BlackBerry is not for everyone,” the company has stated adding “That’s ok.”
“We believe in BlackBerry – our people, our technology and our ability to adapt. We focus every day on what it takes to make sure that you can take care of business.
“You trust your BlackBerry to deliver your most important messages, so trust us when we deliver one of our own: You can continue to count on us.”
