Trade your old iPhone in for an iPhone 5S

Apple has launched its iPhone trade-in scheme in the UK today, offering cash for older models all the way back to the original iPhone.

Anyone holding on to an older iPhone will be pleased to hear they can now trade it in for a cash lump sum, which they can then put towards an upgrade.

If you’re hankering after an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C, Apple has now opened up the iPhone trade-in scheme to the UK for models ranging from the original iPhone to the now discontinued iPhone 5.

"iPhones hold great value. So, Apple Retail Stores in the UK are launching a new program to assist customers who wish to bring in their previous-generation iPhone for reuse or recycling”, reads the official statement. “In addition to helping support the environment, customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone."

The service has been offered as an online platform for over three years, but you can now trade-in your old iPhones in store, after checking the price Apple is offering first.

Listed under the Reuse and Recycling service, the iPhone trade-in scheme will even accept devices that have a smashed screen or damaged LCD display, but it will affect the pay-out you receive. Any device that is water-damaged won’t be accepted though.

A pretty much perfect 16GB iPhone 5 will fetch £220, while a 16GB iPhone 4S in good nick will get you £150. An iPhone 4 16GB is worth £100, but if you’re looking to sell a perfectly good iPhone 3GS 16GB you’ll only get £25.

An original iPhone with the maximum 16GB internal storage is worth a measly £10, and the iPhone 3 16GB is worth the same amount.
