Rovio has released the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming Angry Birds Go racing game, complete with an official release date.
Arriving on December 11 for multiple platforms, Angry Birds Go is a mobile title to rival the likes of Mario Kart 7 on the Nintendo 3DS, offering gamers a new way to play with the notorious winged characters.
Rather than the traditional side-scrolling, bird flinging title like Angry Birds Star Wars, the new Angry Birds Go is a 3D, downhill racing game that allows users to upgrade their vehicles.
“It’s a complete first for the Angry Birds series featuring high-octane downhill racing, upgradable karts, tons of characters with unique special powers and a fully rendered 3D world”, said Rovio.
All the Angry Birds characters play a part in the racing game and the Pigs are playable as well. Each vehicle can be upgraded and the characters can employ special powers in the usual Mario Kart style to cause havoc on the tracks, which can take place on land, sea and in the air.
“The game will be built from the ground up as a free-to-play title, with a whole host of modes and features included from the get-go.”
As with Angry Birds Star Wars 2, the new Telepods are compatible with Angry Birds Go. There will be new models released to tie-in with the game
“We’ll also offer a headstart for Angry Birds Go! with a special countdown app at the end of October – if you already have your Angry Birds Go! Telepods, then just scan them in to see what you’ll get in the game.”
The game will launch on December 11 for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 devices, and be free to download from the various app stores.
“December 11 is just the beginning. We have huge plans for our first ever racing game and we can’t wait to see what you guys think.”
