Nokia Lumia 1020 - now with added Netflix
Nokia is offering an extra incentive to purchase its Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia devices before the end of the year - a free subscription to Netflix.
The Finnish mobile maker has launched this deal with the popular movie streaming service in a bid to snatch those vital Christmas sales here in the UK, where Windows Phone holds a relatively strong 10 percent of the smartphone market.
The Financial Times broke the news that Nokia had struck a deal with Netflix, and would be offering these subscriptions through UK network Vodafone. Sure enough, Vodafone's website contains further details of the offer.
It appears the main push for Nokia is its new flagship phone, the Nokia Lumia 1020. Purchase one of these through Vodafone and you'll be entitled to a year's subscription to Netflix.
However, other handsets in the Lumia range are also included. Opt for a Nokia Lumia 925 or a Nokia Lumia 625 and you'll get a six month Netflix subscription. You'll need to sign up before the end of December, though.
Meanwhile, Phones4U is offering the Nokia Lumia 1020, the Nokia Lumia 925 and the Nokia Lumia 625 with six month Netflix contracts.
According to the original report, "the deal is being funded predominantly by Nokia." Naturally, though, it should prove beneficial to Netflix, which is in the process of expanding into European markets from its US base.
This Netflix deal could be part of Nokia's last push for sales and profit as an independent company, before its sale to Microsoft goes through next year.
