Users of the new Nexus 7 have reported multitouch issues with Google’s latest 7-inch tablet, joining the GPS problems discovered last week.
Google’s Nexus 7 2 is off to a bumpy start as its users are now experiencing erratic multi-touch functionality performance.
According to various forums, the display on the tablet is frequently registering phantom touches on the screen when using multiple fingers.
Although it is noticeable when using apps, users are mostly complaining about the phantom touches registering when using the keyboard, with additional keys pressed as they type.
“I picked up my new N7 on Friday. At first the keyboard seemed okay, though it would occasionally register double presses on the keyboard,” said one Google Groups commenter. “Now it has gotten progressively worse and the keyboard is getting very erratic. It is frequently registering double taps, and often ghost taps in area not anywhere near where I’m touching on the keyboard. It’s almost to the point where it is unusable.”
Google has acknowledged the problem and says it is working on a fix for the display. Hopefully for Google and new Nexus 7 users it is a software problem that can be fixed with a update rather than a hardware issue.
“Hi everyone, thanks again for letting us know how your touchscreen’s been doing after trying safe mode or resetting your tablet – it’s helpful to know that hasn’t resolved this issue for you,” posted Paul Wilcox, a Community Manager for Google. “The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating. I’ll post an update when there’s new information to share.”
Late last week it came to light that new Nexus 7 2 users were reporting GPS problems with the device.
As with this multitouch issue, Google is working on a fix, but until then it seems that the second-generation 7-inch tablet loses the GPS connection and fails to regain the signal, even if the new Nexus 7 starts working without issue.
We have to say that in our review of the new Nexus 7, we didn’t experience either of these issues but it seems that they aren’t happening to everyone.
