Gold iPhone 5S on the way?

This week's reports claiming a gold-coloured iPhone 5S could be among the options when Apple launches its next-gen smartphone have gained a little more credence with the appearance of purportedly leaked photos online.

The shot above, posted by French Apple repair shop MacBoutic (translated), is claimed to be of a gold-coloured rear casing for the as-yet-unannounced iPhone 5S handset.

The pic arrives just hours after well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tipped a "champagne" coloured iPhone 5S to sit along the black and white offerings.

If that's the case, it'd be the first time Apple had veered from the two colours, although there's plenty of evidence suggesting

The site claims it has deliberately "blurred out" the Apple logo and text on the casing, which suggests one of two things. Either the site is protecting whomever gave it the case, or the whole thing is a spray paint job on an existing iPhone 5.

This week's reports also claimed that a 128GB version of the handset will also be available for the first time on the iPhone 5S, while a re-imagined Home button complete with a built-in fingerprint sensor has also been rumoured.

It appears that we'll only know for sure what Apple is cooking up at a yet-to-be-confirmed event tipped for September 10. Until then we can keep dreaming of a Champagne Super-phone-a… sorry.
