Sony's new lens camera could be announced soon
Sony is preparing to launch one of the more innovative digital imaging products we've seen in quite a while; a pair of clip-on, self-contained 'lens cameras' that will play nice with iOS and Android devices.
The cameras, expected to arrive under the name DSC-QX10 and the higher-spec DSC-QX100, have been leaked in new, high-resolution shots courtesy of the SonyAlphaRumors blog.
According to the site, the unique devices will feature sensors akin to the celebrated and highly rated Sony RX100 as well as zoom controls, space for an SD card.
The tiny package will also have built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, in order to connect with smartphone devices. The connectivity tech will allow the phones to be used as a viewfinder for the device.
It appears as though the lens camera will attach to a range of smartphones through an adjustable clip, but the report also mentions the sensor will also be magnetic. Tough luck if you're a Samsung user...
The result should be a camera package akin to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom or a Nokia Lumia 1020, that allows users to still have a super-slim smartphone of their choosing and still use it to take great pictures.
Prices and release dates aren't mentioned in the report, but we should learn more by the IFA tech show in early September, if not earlier.
Sony is also thought to have a full-frame NEX camera in the pipeline, as well as the new Xperia 1i - aka Honami - phone that may pack a 20-megapixel sensor.
