BlackBerry has lifted the curtain on another handset, the BlackBerry 9720, complete with a Curve-like design and specs sheet.
Despite the fact that BlackBerry announced it is looking for a potential buyer, it hasn’t stopped the Canadian firm releasing yet another handset.
The BlackBerry 9720 runs on the older BlackBerry 7.1 OS rather than the newest and sleekest BB10 OS, appealing to those looking for a budget handset with the aesthetics of BlackBerry’s classic Curve range.
Sure to tread on the sales toes of the BB10 touting BlackBerry Q5 unless marketed correctly, the BlackBerry 9720 will launch in Europe, Latin America and Asia “in the coming weeks”, with an unknown price tag.
BlackBerry 9720 Features
The BlackBerry 9720 has a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch touch screen display with a 480 x 360p resolution and 214ppi image density.
In the rear is a 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom and image stabilisation, but the BlackBerry 9720 lacks a forward-facing snapper.
It has a 1450mAh removable battery that offers up to 7 hours talk time or 18 days on standby.
As for the processor, the BlackBerry 9720 has a rather unimpressive 806MHz Tavor MG1 with 512MB of RAM.
Adding to its Curve-esque appearance, the BlackBerry 9720 has a “re-engineered” thumb pad that will allow users to navigate the BlackBerry 7.1 OS.
The BlackBerry 9720 also has a dedicated BBM and BBM Voice shortcut key on the side of the device.
Perhaps appealing to the business sector more than consumers, the BlackBerry 9720 will join the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Q5.
