Sky has revealed it plans to launch a ‘next-generation’ Now TV box, coming in 2015.

The current Now TV service – owned by Sky – lets viewers choose from three separate content packages.

The company also launched a set-top box for the Now TV service nearly two years ago.

That’s a long time in tech, of course, so it’s no surprise that Sky is already working on a sequel to breathe life back into the box.

Now TV ‘next-gen’ will feature a redesigned user interface, and come with its own shiny new marketing campaign.

It’s also likely we’ll see a full committal to full HD content with the new box, which wasn’t such a concern when the original service launched.

Sky is also very well positioned to push its Now TV service, as the company today revealed it provides to 8 million connected Sky boxes across the UK.

There was also talk from ‘insider sources’ earlier this week that Sky was planning to fast track plans to launch a 4K compatible set-top box.

It’s not yet clear whether this device would be a core Sky offering, or whether it would come in the form of Now TV.
