Swatch has confirmed it plans to face off against the Apple Watch with its own smartwatch launch in the coming months.

Speaking to TNW, a Swatch spokesperson said: “Swatch will launch a new generation of its Swatch smartwatch in the next two to three months.”

While no stranger to wrist-borne tech, Swatch would still be entering the smartwatch race proper with this upcoming wearable.

The spokesperson couldn’t give a specific date for the launch, but did confirm some of the features set to debut with the as-yet unnamed device.

Functions will include communication, mobile payments at stores such a Migros and Coop, and applications that work with Windows and Android – without having to be charged.”

The point about an absence of the need to charge the device will be a welcome boon for Apple Watch dissidents unconvinced by the current battery life rumours.

The Apple Watch is now confirmed to land in April, which seems to roughly coincide with Swatch’s launch estimates.

The watchmaker also confirmed that it would release the new Swatch Touch at the end of the month. While not a smartwatch per se, it does boast a curved glass touchscreen.
