Verizon is the first mobile carrier in the United States to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 handset.
The rollout on Monday comes almost exactly three months after Google made the new OS available to third party manufacturers.
Samsung and Verizon have been testing the update ever since and following the Korean firm’s sign off, the carrier is now made the update ready for prime time.
Verizon is the first carrier in the US to roll out the update for Samsung’s flagship phone and continues the scattered launches in various territories.
Galaxy S5 owners on the 'Big Red' network can check whether the update has landed within the Settings portion of the Android device.
The roll out (via Gigaom) may assist bump up the figures for Android 5.0 adoption, which, according to the latest figures, is hovering around 1.6 per cent of all Android handsets (via AndroidCentral).
The figure, which accounts for the last 7 days of activity up to February 2nd is up from last month which didn’t even register Android Lollipop on the usage scales.
Aside form the Nexus 6 which arrived packing Lollipop out of the box, the Galaxy S5 is joined by some versions of the HTC One, Moto X, Moto G and LG G3.

At the end of last week, Motorola sought to explain the long periods of time users have to wait to get the latest software on Android as it announced Lollipop for Indian and Brazilian Moto G users.
