The CEO of Twitter, Dick Costolo, has said that that the company is not doing a good enough job at tackling the troll epidemic.

Writing in a memo (via The Verge), Costolo revealed how he is ‘ashamed’ over the failure, and will be taking action.

We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we’ve sucked at it for years,” wrote the Twitter top brass.

“It’s no secret and the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day.”

Costolo explained how Twitter would begin ‘kicking these people off right and left’, and ensuring cyberbullies don’t have a platform for ‘ridiculous attacks’.

In a second message, the CEO revealed he thought it was his personal responsibility to deal with the failures of the company.

He wrote: “So now we’re going to fix it, and I’m going to take full responsibility for making sure that the people working night and day on this have the resources they need to address the issue.”

Twitter currently has somewhere in the region of 284 million monthly active users worldwide, so it won’t be an easy task for the company to handle the trolling minority.

The company will be revealing its fourth quarter earnings tomorrow, which could see new initiatives announced regarding the anti-trolling push.
