Stop the presses, HTC’s next flagship phone will be officially known as the HTC One M9 when unveiled next month, latest reports have suggested.

While this seemingly unsurprising revelation might seem like something of a nonentity to some, it had been widely reported that the Taiwanese manufacturer would drop its numerical naming convention in favour of the HTC Hima moniker.

According to latest reports, however, this Hima title was nothing more than a development codename, with the HTC One M8 follow-on to take the logical naming step.

Confirmed: HTC Hima will be going to the market with marketing name HTC One M9,” serial Twitter-based tipster @Upleaks announced.

Although far from an official avenue for naming confirmation, we would be hugely surprised if the manufacturer moved away from its tried and tested – and easily marketable – naming structure.

One of the most eagerly awaited devices of 2015, the HTC One M9 has been the subject of much rumour and speculation in recent weeks.

A handset set to go head-to-head with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the M9 is expected to be officially unveiled during HTC’s pre-MWC press conference on March 1.

While many smartphone makers are following LG in adopting 2560 x 1440 pixel 2K panels, HTC with the M9 appears to be pursuing more traditional routes.

Leaked M9 specs have suggested the phone will pair a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display with a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and a new 20-megapixel primary camera alongside a 13-megapixel front-facing snapper.
