The HTC One M9 Hima might leapfrog MWC and launch at its own standalone event, at least according to the latest e-chatter.

Prolific rumour-spinner @upleaks has posted his crystal-ball sired insights to Twitter – surprise, surprise – pegging the upcoming flagship for an alternative debut.

I think HTC won’t announce Hima at MWC2015, it may be announced at their special event…” read the post.

Next year’s Mobile World Congress runs from March 2 to March 5 in Barcelona, Spain, and doesn’t typically host HTC’s flagship smartphone anyway.

The real question is whether HTC will opt for an event earlier or later than MWC.

Earlier would put the HTC Hima launch in February – not a bad guess, considering last year’s HTC One M7 saw a press event launch on February 19, snubbing MWC.

Later also seems a likely candidate, especially as this year’s HTC One M8 smartphone was unveiled at a dedicated press conference on March 25.

So what else do we know about the HTC One M9 Hima? For starters, we’re expecting the device to tout a 5-inch 1080p display.

The whispered spec sheet also boasts a Snapdragon 810 chip, a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing snapper, and a 13-megapixel front-facing shooter to boot.

It’s also expected that we’ll see Android 5.0 Lollipop on the device, with HTC Sense UI 7.0 handling user experience.
