Photo-sharing app Instagram has five brand new filters to its arsenal, while serving up some tweaks to make it easier to select the right effect for the job.

The Facebook-owned company has added filters called Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetual to the list, which are the first new options for two years.

“Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, we’re releasing five new filters that we believe are our best yet,” the company wrote on its official blog.

“You’ll see the filters at the front of your filter tray: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. They soften and subtly shift colours to achieve the look and feel you want for your each photo.”

As well as the new filters, Instagram is now adding a live preview, of sorts, to the filter tray. Now, instead of a nondescript thumbnail, the user will see a blurred version of the image they’re currently editing.

Instagram says this “lets you see at a glance how your photo will appear with each filter applied.”

Finally, the firm is enabling patrons to rearrange their filters list to save them scanning through the entire tray in order to get to their favourite effect.

The update is available to download for both iOS and Android devices today. Happy snapping and sharing.
