Fire TV gets HBO
Amazon’s fledgling Fire TV platform has added another string to its bow, with the arrival of the all-important HBO Go app.
Users of the set-top box in the United States should see the app appear in the menu today, while support for the Fire TV Stick will follow this spring.
The addition of HBO Go will allow subscribers to access the current crop of TV shows and movies on demand.
Amazon already had a leg-up in this department with much of the HBO archive of top programming available to stream via the Amazon Prime Instant Video platform.
However, the launch of the app brings the company in line with the other major names in the US set-top box market.
HBO Go joins the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, Vevo and others, with Amazon claiming to have boosted the number of available services four fold since the product launched earlier this year.
The online retailer is also angling a festive carrot this season by offering the device for just $79 (around £50) until December 28.
