Google has updated its Drive apps for both Android and iOS with a bunch of powerful new features.
The company has taken to its own social network to announce the new updates to Google Drive, and they're pretty sizeable.
On Android, you can now search for your Google Drive files direct from the Google search app. That means you can use the "OK, Google" vocal prompt to bring up your budget spreadsheet.
Or, to use Google's own example, you could say "OK, Google — search for holiday letter on Drive" without the fuss of looking for it in Drive or even typing in some key words.
As for iPhone and iPad users, you now get the ability to upload any old file to Google Drive. That means files from other, non-Google iOS apps. Useful.
Both iOS and Android Google Drive users now get the ability to access and share any maps created within the new Google My Maps tool.
The iOS Google Drive update is now available on the App Store, while the Android update will apparently roll out over the next week or so.
This is just the latest in a whole spate of recent Google software updates. The company appears to have been working hard to bring all of its apps in line with Android 5.0 Lollipop's Material Design, and to generally improve the Google experience ahead of all those new smartphones and PCs being booted up over the Christmas period.
