All UK LG G3 handsets will be handed the eagerly awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update this week, the manufacturer has exclusively told TrustedReviews.

With Vodafone having rolled out the Lollipop patch to its network-tied G3 owners over the weekend, LG has now told us the OS refresh will hit “most devices by Saturday”.

“I can confirmed that LG is rolling out the update to G3 handsets in the UK this week,” an official spokesperson for the company told TrustedReviews.

They added: “We expect it to arrive on most devices by Saturday.”

Detailing the upcoming update plans, they stated: “There may be some variation by carrier (Vodafone, for example, has rolled out early), but generally speaking G3 owners can expect to be running the latest flavour of Android by the end of the week.

Android 5.0 was introduced alongside the Nexus 6 earlier this month. Although the update has since been brought to past Nexus handsets – including the Nexus 5 – the LG G3 is the first third-party flagship phone to be bestowed with the software.

LG recently suggested its past partnerships with Google had allowed it to gain early access to the new Android OS.

“We will definitely be one of the first vendors to introduce Lollipop to our flagship device,” Shaun Musgrave, LG’s Product Marketing Manager told us.

He added: “Because we have a good relationship with Google – and bearing in mind we have two previous devices with them – naturally we would get the ASOP a little earlier than most.

“That’s one of the reasons [we’re able to get the update out so quickly].”

Last month the LG G3 was crowned the 2014 TrustedReviews Phone of the Year .

Android 5.0 Lollipop introduces a number of key updates and improvements overs past Android releases. Joining the software’s new Material design is 64-bit processor support and improved battery management.
