Amazon has just launched its new Prime Now service, offering package delivery times of less than an hour.
The online retail giant says ‘tens of thousands of daily essentials and gift items’ are available to buy through the service, which is currently the fastest Amazon delivery option yet.
There are two options – free two-hour delivery, or one-hour delivery for $7.99 (that’s around £5).
If that doesn’t clue you in to the rollout, then here’s the in-brief – it’s US-only now. In fact, the service is only currently available in Manhattan.
It’s likely the bustling metropolis was chosen for its high population density, ease of transport (read: US grid system), and relative wealth.

You’ll need to be a member of Amazon Prime to access the service of course, which also tacks on a hefty yearly fee – although you will get access to other Amazon services, including Kindle book loans and Prime Instant Video.
The new service is available from 6am right up until midnight, with Amazon promising seven-day-a-week deliveries.
Amazon’s new Manhattan branch will act as the hub for nippy deliveries, with packages sure to be lugged around the city by able-and-willing couriers.
As far as a wider rollout is concerned, Amazon has promised it will be coming to ‘a city near you’ in the future. How frustratingly vague…
