The Snapdragon 810 processor will be used to power more than 60 top tier mobile devices, chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has confirmed.
Despite recent reports suggesting the latest-generation chip has been struck by all manner of issues, including overheating problems and production delays, Qualcomm has revealed expansive plans for the chip’s immediate adoption.
“The smartphone experience at the premium tier will be defined by products that don’t compromise on performance, connectivity and entertainment, and Snapdragon 810 will be at the heart of enabling these features,” Murthy Renduchintala, Qualcomm’s Executive Vice President said.
“With a growing design pipeline currently in excess of 60 devices, we’re excited about the innovation our OEM customers will unlock for consumers who demand superior mobile experiences in 2015.”
The first handsets to run the octa-core chip have already been confirmed, with both the LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro having entered the realms of reality in recent weeks.
Further companies to have announced plans to introduce Snapdragon 810 powered handsets include Microsoft, Motorola, Oppo and Sony.
"Motorola Mobility and Qualcomm have a long history of cooperating to create amazing mobile experiences," Motorola President, Rick Osterloh, stated.
He added: "The Snapdragon 810 processor will enable us to push the boundaries even further so we can continue delighting our customers with devices that give them new choices."
Interestingly, with Samsung having reportedly ditched the Snapdragon 810 from its Galaxy S6 plans, the Korean manufacturer has failed to offer any words on the high-powered chipset.
Last week Qualcomm appeared to confirm reports the S6 would favour an Exynos chip over the Snapdragon 810, lowering its profit expectations over “expectations that our Snapdragon 810 processor will not be in the upcoming design cycle of a large customer’s flagship device.”

While the S6 might shun the latest Snapdragon, a spate of 810 powered handsets are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, with next month’s MWC 2015 gathering a likely launch venue for multiple devices.
Those expected to enter the realms of reality with the 805 follow-on in tow include the eagerly awaited HTC One M9, the Sony Xperia Z4 and the LG G4.
